Sound up for the rut is on! Bull elk pheromonal urine spraying and bugling are classic signs of the rut, both exhibited here in late August at this diminishing pond. Bulls will then thrash their antlers in the mud (and sometimes roll in it) to give themselves a distinctive scent to attract females.
