The most dramatic shift comes when the clocks spring forward. In the USA, they move to daylight saving time, with most of the country shifting their clocks forwards an hour. This year it happens this weekend, on Sunday, March 8 at 2am, although Hawaii and most of Arizona don't do this.
With over a week to go before the clocks spring forward, there are steps you can take now to reduce lower your chances of sleep deprivation and racking up a sleep debt because of the clocks going forward. Crucially, that includes sticking to a regular bedtime and banking at least seven hours a night, as covered by the 7:1 sleep rule.
The clocks change earlier in 2026, bringing lighter evenings, 8pm sunsets and spring feeling back to the UK sooner.
This also means British clocks will soon spring forward, bringing us into British Summer Time (BST). The annual change is set to take place at 1am on the final Sunday of March, which this year falls on March 29,
